FEW1354 - SDA Switches (#REQ-1034)
Currently undertaking a migration of old network switches to new as part of the Network replacement and move to dark fibre. A bulk of switches were bought under a compliant contract 3 years ago. Due to Covid and other delays attributed to shortages in the market for electronic components the full rollout to all Council buildings has only recently commenced.
Due to the way support and maintenance works it was not cost effective to purchase all switches in bulk under the contact 3 years ago as the support would be counting down whilst they are not installed.
In addition, undertaking a procurement process at this stage for the entire estate and new requirements is problematic on the basis until migration is complete there would be a waste of costs that would be attributed to support kit that is being decommissioned as part of this rollout.
Whilst additional switches will be required in excess of this, due to the impending Wi-Fi tender and installation, the upgrade of Wi-Fi will reduce the over number of switches required. Once the Wi-Fi has been replaced an actual number of switches required to complete the project will be known.
